- About Us
Who We Are
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) is the largest Christian denomination in the country, boasting a membership of over 850,000 individuals. Deeply embedded in Namibian society, ELCIN has a long-standing tradition of addressing social, spiritual, and community development needs. For more than 20 years, the church’s Department of Missions, Diakonia, and Social Services (DMDSS) has been at the forefront of tackling the nation’s most critical socio-economic issues, working across political, religious, and cultural divides to drive holistic development and meaningful grassroots impact.
We are the social and missional arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN), mandated to serve with integrity, compassion, and accountability. Our work spans community empowerment, psychosocial support, sustainable livelihoods, gender justice, child protection, health promotion, youth development, and advocacy for the rights of indigenous and marginalized communities.
- What We Do
Our Transformative Approach
Unlearn and Relearn
A transformed Namibian society where every person, especially the most vulnerable, lives with dignity, faith, and purpose
Co-Design with Communities
We work hand-in-hand with those we serve, ensuring that solutions are people-driven, participatory, and rooted in lived realities.
Facilitate and Accompany
We don’t just implement—we walk alongside. ELCIN facilitates change by empowering local actors and remaining present throughout the journey.
Continuously Improve
We reflect, adapt, and innovate. Every step is a learning opportunity to strengthen our impact and better serve God’s people.
Build and Strengthen Faith in Action
Rooted in faith, we turn love, justice, and service into action through diakonia, advocacy, and community change.
- A vision of dignity and empowerment for all.
Transforming Lives with Purpose
Guided by faith, we empower communities to lead their own change through compassionate, strategic action.
Our Vision
A transformed Namibian society where every person, especially the most vulnerable, lives with dignity, faith, and purpose
Our Approach
Rooted in the Gospel, we adopt a holistic and participatory approach to diakonia—serving people not only with compassion but also with strategies that empower them to change their own lives. Through our 5-Year Strategic Plan (2025–2030) , we are deepening our commitment to partnerships, local ownership, and evidence-based impact.
